BRIEF INTRODUCTION TO PANOPTO

Panopto is a video platform similar to YouTube, where it is possible to upload and share audio and video files. Panopto has a built-in recording programme, which makes it possible to create screen and video recordings, stream live over the internet, manage the videos recorded, and share them in a Moodle course.

PEDAGOGICAL ADVANTAGES

Panopto can be used by lecturers when, for example, working with flipped learning. Here you have the opportunity to record lectures that are theory-heavy and upload them to Panopto. Afterwards, you can link to your videos directly from your Moodle course room, so that students have easy access. The time previously spent lecturing on theory can now be used to discuss with and challenge students regarding their understanding of the recorded theory-heavy lecture.

Another example, where lecturers can activate students, is by giving them the opportunity to submit a video as an alternative to a written assignment. Students also have access to Panopto and can submit a film in Moodle’s submission module instead of a file. Student-produced videos provide the opportunity for a different creative approach to assignment submission, and this can be a way to challenge and engage students in new ways.

ACCESS
If you wish to access Panopto, you can log in to the video platform here. You will have to log on using your AAU credentials.
