Consider what you want to use your quiz for. Is it from a social perspective, as a break used to revise academical knowledge or as a means to conclude a course or subject?

• If you are working from a social point of view and you wish for the students to get to know one another, the subject of the quiz proves less important while the form of it much more so. If the various project groups have to connect, the quiz may contain questions that the groups need to discuss and answer correctly, in competition with the other groups.
• If you are working from the perspective of revision, the quiz could contain claims where the students have to decide whether they are true or false. It might also be about putting steps in a procedure in the correct order or finding the connection between two claims.
• If you wish to use a quiz to conclude a subject or course, you can use the methods mentioned above but you can also combine it with questions of a reflective nature which may provide other perspectives to the course work. The questions might demand that the students summarize and deduce the key points of the various subjects covered.

Consider what kind of questions you want to ask. This is in connection with what you want to use the quiz for. Should it be yes/no questions? A pole? Or essay answers? This is also in connection to what sort of subsequent processing you are planning to use.

• It is necessary to have considered the subsequent processing in your preparation. Should the result of the quiz be used for something later? Or should they be used directly after the quiz's completion?
• If your goal is to check the students understanding of the teaching material a quiz provides you with a quick overview that you can then use in further preparation of classes. True/false quizzes or multiple-choice quizzes provide data, which is easy to consider, and you quickly determine what areas of the teaching your students may have struggles with. A quiz with essay answers may give more comprehensive knowledge but requires more work in the subsequent processing.

Quizzes, poles and tests are some of the methods you can use to engage your students. To include an activity such as these in your teachings provides variation and you divide the teaching into smaller intervals which seem more manageable to students. A quiz may also be used to gain an overview of the progression of your students’ academic knowledge and skills and if there are aspects of the curriculum you should pay extra attention to.

Two helpful surgestions to use when making quizzes, polls or surveys:  

• Moodle: Moodle has a quiz function that provides you with the opportunity to make quizzes. Moodle Quiz and its options are also covered in this article and in this infographic, you can gain knowledge regarding the various types of questions you can create on Moodle Quiz.
• Forms: Microsoft Forms is part of the Office 365 package, and you can easily create questionaries, tests and quizzes. The resources created in Forms are easily shared either on Teams or Moodle.
